The Barkery

Location: East X East, Residential Red Zone

Date: 2022 March

Our Role: Site brokers
The Barkery’s mission is simple: to help more abandoned dogs find forever homes. They set out to raise money and awareness for Ōtautahi dog rescues, by creating a sustainable fundraising model that means rescues aren’t relying entirely on donations and one-off events.
‘Our ‘lightbulb moment’ came when we realised there was no community hub for Christchurch dog lovers and only a few dog-friendly venues in the city. There are over 38,000 registered dogs in Christchurch, so we thought the lack of facilities was just crazy! We found an available space in the Red Zone and with the support of our fantastic community, The Barkery was born.’
The Barkery is a 100% dog-friendly cafe and community space that offers a range of food, events, and activities for people and their pups. They are a social enterprise and donate 10% of profits to Dogwatch and Christchurch Bull Breed Rescue.
