ShoPOP

Location: City Centre

Date: 2018

Our Role: LiVS brokered the spaces and established licence agreements

A competition facilitated by Christchurch City Council saw three installations in vacant shop windows around the Central City.

The project, ShoPOP, was part of the Enliven Places Programme which supported the delivery of projects that helped enliven the central city. The project facilitated a competition that saw the people of Christchurch help design and decide on a new round of these projects.

Vacant land in Christchurch has traditionally been a platform for people with great ideas to experiment and showcase new temporary concepts and pioneering ideas. ShoPOP took advantage of the changing context of the city as sites evolved into buildings with available floor space. These spaces are safe, dry and have easy access to electricity making them ideal for more sophisticated projects. The activated spaces also provided intrigue for visitors and support for other businesses and organisations in the area.

Ideas were suggested in March-April of 2018, these were then put out to public vote in May of that year. The winners were announced and installed in October.
