146 Seaview road is a large site that currently hosts three community-based projects: Renew New Brighton's 'The Old School', The Christchurch Circus Trust and Eastern Community Sports and Recreations Ltd’s OSCAR Programme.
The site was formerly the Central New Brighton School and post-quake merged into the newly formed Rāwhiti School. It continued for a short while as the ‘Beach Campus’ of the new school but closed in late 2016.
The Ministry of Education approved it’s temporary use for community and artistic purposes and Renew opened The Old School Te Kura Tawhito in September 2017. The Christchurch Circus Trust and ECSR Ltd had been using the Roy Stokes Hall and the outdoor play areas respectively before the school closed and continue to do so.
The site hosts a wonderful array of community groups, artists, and health and wellbeing practitioners and offers a diverse range of activities, larger events and classes to the community.
The Ministry of Education sold the site to Development Christchurch Ltd who plan to develop the space within the next few years. In the meantime, LiVS was given a licence to help support the activities continue onsite.
