Creating opportunities for Artists
Our Role: Project Managers, Curators & Site Brokers
Other Support: ErgoStyle, The White Room
By transforming business environments into places of creativity and connection, the initiative hopes to foster stronger relationships between the arts, local businesses, and those experiencing this space.
Ergostyle is the first business to support In Place. “Ergostyle is thrilled to work with Life in Vacant Spaces to bring together commercial businesses with local artists. We are hoping this programme will provide a showcasing for the artists and introduce some creativity, colour and interest into the workspace."
For our first show, we worked with The White Room and Gary Buchanan was selected as the inaugral artist.
Gary has been painting for many years, most notably exploring the changing face of Christchurch’s buildings following the 2011 earthquakes. He has captured some of the city’s most iconic structures, which has built into a unique record of Christchurch’s rebuilding over the past decade.
Gary is part of The White Room collective who have been supporting him for many years. The White Room is a charity and creative studio space that removes barriers to making art for people with learning disabilities and other under-served community members. For Gary, The White Room is a place where he can work alongside other people with shared experiences in a big art space.
You can visit Ergostyle and Gary’s work at Unit 1, 21 Humphreys Drive, Ferrymead.
