Dahlias

Location: Colombo Street, City Centre

Date: 2019

Our Role: LiVS licensed the land
An epic art and lighting installation in the Central City.

Dahlias was submitted to the Christchurch CIty Council’s Light up the City design competition in 2019. Although the submission didn’t meet the contest criteria regarding size, it still aligned with the overall objectives of creating a vibrant central city and contributing to a unique identity so the Council decided to pursue it as a separate project.

The flowers – lit with pink and purple LEDs – have been crafted by Frontal Lobe (a local design company) from recycled and sustainably sourced materials, supporting a reflective space designed to foster hope in the community.
CCC had a site in mind when they contacted us to licence a space for the project. We worked with the landowner of 662 Colombo Street and established an arrangement to see the project installed in late 2019.
