Kākano café and cookery school was brought to life by founder Jade Temepara just over a year ago. Kākano translates to Seed, and it is their vision to tell the story of your kai starting from where it was grown as seed. Kākano café and cookery school offers traditional kai, served in a contemporary world to showcase fresh, local, organic and nutrient dense food.
Kakano’s goal is to bring healthy and nutritious kai to the people of Otautahi. They want to celebrate the whenua /land, culture, education opportunities, community and most importantly whanau/family. Kakano believes food can heal, and sharing it together can heal us as a community.
The cookery school is located within the café and is transformed in the evenings and weekends to cater for basic to skilled cooking abilities. Kakano also runs seminars, workshops, reo lessons, and hosts guests to showcase what our community has to offer. Kakano celebrates our natural world and who we are in it.
